Ellie Zareie

Ellie practices exclusively in family law and is a licensed lawyer in both British Columbia and Tehran. Before joining DJO Family Law, she articled at WorkSafeBC, where she gained valuable litigation experience.

Prior to moving to Canada, Ellie practiced law in Iran for over five years, focusing on high-net-worth family disputes in Tehran. With a background in corporate and contract law, she helped clients navigate complex property and debt division.

Her legal career has spanned multiple jurisdictions, including work on the Prosecutor’s team at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Her unique background gives her the insight and cultural sensitivity to guide clients through the emotional and legal complexities of international marriages with cross-border assets, and multicultural family dynamics.

Ellie holds a Bachelor of Laws from University of Tehran, graduating with distinction in 2013. She earned an LLM in International Law from Leiden University in the Netherlands in 2015, and completed a second LLM in Common Law at the University of British Columbia in 2024 to obtain her Canadian accreditation.

Outside of work, she enjoys playing tennis, biking along the seawall, and traveling.

Ellie is fluent in English and Persian/Farsi and provides legal services in both languages.
